They stay outside their burrow if you give them a small enclosure. The tarantula wants to feel secure, and in a small enclosure, it'll feel secure, so it won't hide.
Just tried this, I put it outside her hide and she dragged it into her hide, guarded it for a bit, decided it wasn't worth protecting and then dumped it outside lol.give yours a crumbled ball of paper to move around. This species seems to "play" with balls more than most others.
