Does anyone have these? I'm new btw, this is my first post after being a guest for a while. I'm wondering if they're worth getting.... or if you know a place where I can get them without going bankrupt ;P!

See you.

If you're looking for something easy and interesting to culture, definitely get some.

Relatively easy to get a few, but it can take a couple of months to bring them up to an appreciable amount. I had a 'bug box' of dermestids used for skeltonisation a few years ago, but they were a pain to maintain when not being used.

How did you get them? Did you collect them?

Another option, if you want just a few to get started, is to check the cricket bin at your LPS. I have a very small colony I just started from there. The girl just let me grab them since I explained they are pests.

I did just order a couple thousand. They will be in next week. If I forget, PM me next week and I will let you know how the order is.

Just too many skulls and skeletons that I need to clean, so I had to jump start the colony.

Do a search on here. Bigboy, I believe, had a good thread on them.

Thanks everyone, but I'm going to go with ZephAmp, he'll send me "enough of both species" for $20. Thanks though!

I would have tanks full of carrion beetles if it weren't for the odor that comes with them.
My gooal for this summer- create a non-smelling carrion beetle diet. :p

ZephAmp, are you working with dermestids now?
Just curious if you ever tried a vented tank to get rid of the smell?
I plan on starting mine in the animal room, and moving them into the garage for the summer. Then I want to vent and heat a chest freezer so I can keep them out there all winter long.

Ward will clean out your bank account, go to taxidermy.net and you should be able to grab them up by the thousands cheaper than crickets.
Speaking of crickets, I have seen Dermestid larvae in cricket boxes before. YOu can always ask to comb the cricket bin at your local pet store.
