:(I decided to see if my 7 1/2 S Heros was OK. He's not
he is dead. I am very sad. Is it possible it was old age?
Apparently he's been dead for a couple of days. He was
eating large crix last week and seems to be very active
then he dies. Any ideas ladies and gents? The soil was
a bit moist but there were dry areas in the enclosure that
he could have gone to but didn't.

That's too bad man. Sometimes things like this just happen with these guys. I actually had a similar situation recently. I had a nice female S. alternans "Haiti" lay eggs. I was stoked about this! She kept them great for around 2 1/2 weeks, then suddenly decided to eat them... :-( Shortly after this happened, the centipede burrowed down and I didn't see her again for a little while (which isn't unusual really). About a week ago I decided to gently dig her up and upon finding her, I realized she had died while she was buried. No idea why this happens, but it seems to.

Again, sorry for your loss.

Ragnew,
Thanks dude, I enjoyed your post. I just have to not
make the same mistake again. When I dug him out I found
that the moisture level may have been to high and the
ventilation was lacking a bit. I have 2 babies I got in the
same shipment and right now they are OK. Let's see what
happens.
