My curly has been on his back for almost 4 hours and
has not begun to molt. At least not anything obvious.
He/she is moving a little, so I know its alive.
This T has molted once in my care but did so in its burrow
and I missed it. I have no clue how long it took either.

Is this normal and how long should it take for a 3 inch T to molt?
This will be my first molt of a larger T so its kind of freaky:eek:

Here is a shot of it

Hey there

Don't worry, i had a 12 hour molt with a 4" rosea. All was perfect, and she went on to bring me many many eggsacs...

I've also had this happen with some Poec and Holothele Ts.

no worries. just dont keep watching, cos it'll take forever and you'll think somethings wrong ;)

i use the wet paper towel trick, but then again, there's some research that is theorizing that humidity while Ts are on their back is pointless, since most of the lubrication is coming from within and is already present during the "on-their-back phase".

still, depends on which side of the fence youre on again :)

peace

The actual moulting should only take an hour or two at the most, BUT the laying on the back in preparation for a moult might go as long as 18 hours so there is nothing to worry about.

Ok maybe I'll worry less now..........or not:rolleyes:

12hours:eek:

It was changing its burrow around for about 3 days now
and yesterday it made the web its laying on.
Come to think of it, it also ate yesterday. So, I didn't think it would molt again so soon. The T molted about a month ago.
It has been pretty warm here and the T eats like theres no tomorrow....
:D

18hours:eek:

Mine was the same regarding the 'on the back' time. It finally moulted on monday, but still hasn't 'stretched' out. Is very much alive though.

Yes, it's not unusual for T's to be fliied over for hours before the molt commences. Don't worry!! Good luck.

Well congrats on a sucessful curly molt Marcie.
My Curly molted upright the first time in my ownership. The second time she molted on her back. What was funny is that my neice's stepmom was picking my neice up at my place. My neice told her she had to see my Arachnids. So I was gabbing with her, showing her my spiders and scorpions of various ages and sizes. I was telling her about molting. Lo and Behold Bubbles, my Curly, who was acting strangely all night, had lain on her back in a molt position so I could show my neice's stepmom exactly what a molt position looked like.

Well, it ended up at about 6 hours total.
The T even turned back over to clean itself and tried to walk around!
Here is the last picture.

Well speaking of molts, my L. striatus molted last night and I took plenty of pictures. But that will be another thread.

I looked in on the Curly this morning, all I could see was 1 leg.
It went into its burrow. So, I guess everything went ok.
It will come out when its ready to eat:D
