So how many more years until we have Arachnoboards shirts made of spider silk? Hopefully within my lifetime.:plot:

🤣 I read an in depth article a few years on silks, and this paper is what everyone has been waiting for. Just a matter of time before the above happens

Thanks @viper69. Nice to see progress being made with spider silk. I think it will have widespread uses.

This would be a fantastically satisfying project!

And thanks @viper69 I just downloaded the article to read tonight! I am very happy to see this has finally gotten attention!

@viper69 I'm cynical and just plain pissed off and you know why. You saw this coming ages ago. Knew it would happen. Industry knew it as well. Dupont with the first end all be all with Kevlar, then further aramid development, and the ruling all powerful impetus behind these developments that constantly sidelined the sustainable natural versions that already existed and went unexplored. And this development, destined to be sidelined as well. Until the all powerful motivation can control it, profits.
There are dozen, hundreds, of similar developments out there, all sidelined, while industry pours the development into the research that will make them the highest profit yield.

It forced it's way to the forefront with alternative energy because profits were foreseeable. But for every dollar put into profitable fossil fuel and synthetic development a penny got spent. if even that, on alternatives. Profits and expedience still rules at the expense of consumption of natural resources and degradation of the planetary environment. And side effects such as global warming and continuing destruction of the wilderness.

We're still waiting for the paradigm shift. Sustainability vs money. Will the human race end up on the list of endangered species before we wise up and demand planet and people must come before profits?
