Depends how thick the cardboard is and how long you give them to try and chew through it...

Yes, given enough time, they can and will chew through cardboard, at least IME....

I know they can chew through a plastic bag.

they have managed to chew through window screening so I had to switch to galvanized hardware mesh in my cricket bins
