hi

i live out in west of Atlanta Georgia, and it was raining really hard to day, when i was at my grandparents, and they kinda live out in the back of a neighbor hood, and they were talking about how they have seen some scorps latley,so it stoped raining for a while, and i decided to go around flipping over stuff over to look for some.,every where back there, has alot of dead leaves and pinestraw,so i flipped over a flat rock and found a SCORP!!-at first it looked like a small earwig that we have all over here, but the it spun around at me.,so i ran in and grabbed a tubber ware cup to put it in.-im still amazed that i found one.

i was going to see if any one could i dentify it,and give me that latin name and the common name. and tell me how bad the sting of it is.and is it communal.
after going out and finding it with in a matter of minutes,im sure theres more.

i'll post pics as soon as my camera charges.

-Blake

+1 V Carolinianus edit common name is "Southern Devil Scorpion" Native to Georgia, Tennessee, and Carolina

1-2" as adults. Not very hard to care for. Lots of hides and moist coco fiber or peat and a small water dish. Will not see them much except at night. Quick to sting but, venom scale very low at a 1. Communal as adults only in smaller numbers. Very slower growers and long gestation cycles, but worth the wait for me at least. Can be very hard to sex because of their size.
One of my favorites. ;)

Definitely NOT gracilis!

I am 100% positive that your scorpion is a V./H. carolinianus.
