I believe the only things that are special about Lampropeltis triangulum gaigeae is the fact they can reach over 6 feet and they do better in somewhat cooler temps than most Lampropeltis species.

other than being one of the larger milksnakes...they aren't really that uncommon. I know you would at least need a fairly good sized enclosure for it. All my experience with milks have shown them to be cruisers lol

I breed these at our massive reptile store. They are huge, gentle milk snakes that all start out with a typical red-black-white color scheme that changes to all black as they get older. Very shiny scales, very jet black. To answer your questions about the differences between this one and L.g.nigrita... the Black Milk (as L.t.gaigeae is also referred to as) is obviously bigger than the mexican black, and if you look close enough, the skin beneath the scales is white in the black milk, as opposed to black in the black king.

Black milks are awsome! I regret selling my 3.4 breeding colony of them. As far as the tempermants they dont have the typical milksnake flight response, afew of my adults didnt like handling but most were nice and calm. They all had a very strong feeding response though, so make sure to watch yourself. Never could handle one of my males because of that. You'll be very happy if you get a gaigea, babies sell for 75-120. Dont let someone talk you into paying more for one because its from 'San Antonio Zoo stock' either, about 75% of all L.G's are!
