hey Greg,

i'm quite sure there aren't any Cormocephalus spec. in Spain
check:
P.Stoev. 1997. A Checklist of the centipedes of the Balkan peninsula. ISSN 0105-3574
it has quite some questionmarks on its name.

Balkan peninsula isn't Iberian peninsula if that is what you mean by that.

Hi,
I also think that the occurence of Cormocephalus gervasianus is doubtful here in Europe. There is a doubtful finding in Greece and the name doesn't occur on any other checklist or database in europe.

Here is a list of all sure known species of the family scopendridae and their distribution in europe:

Otostigmus spinicauda (Newport 1844) Canary Is.
Scolopendra canidens Newport 1844 Cyclades Is.
Scolopendra cingulata Latreille 1789 mediterrenean and balkan region
Scolopendra clavipes C.L.Koch 1847 Dodecanese Is.
Scolopendra cretica Attems 1902 Crete
Scolopendra dalmatica C.L.Koch 1847 Balkan, Italy
Scolopendra oraniensis H. Lucas 1846 Balearic Is., France, Italy, Malta, Spain, Portugal
Scolopendra valida H. Lucas 1840 Canary Is.

O. spinicaudus is the original combination but O. spinicauda is the current valid name used in the newer databases like Faunaeuropeae and SysMyr ;)

I'm not quite sure...
Both http://chilobase.bio.unipd.it/ and SysTax (http://www.biologie.uni-ulm.de/cgi-...?id=89468&stufe=7&typ=ZOO&sid=T&lang=e&pr=nix)
are using Otostigmus spinicaudus form. Also Lewis in his article "Variation in three centipede species of the genus Otostigmus and its bearing on species discrimination (Chilopoda; Scolopendromorpha; Scolopendridae)" Journal of Natural History 34: 433-448, see p. 434. is using this name...
It's from 2000 year so I thinh it's up to date:)
But I may by wrong, Steven correct mi if I'm wrong{D

Greg

Ps: I check... this specie is available in Spain, but only in Canary Islands.
Pps: Does anybody know, why any Otostigminea doesn't occure in Europe :(

i don't know when the last updates were of Faunaeuropea and SysMyr ?

Last update were april 2007 for Faunaeuropeae and march 2007 for SysMyr. Systematics is full of confusion, progress and different point of views. Names come and names gone. So, whether you use one or the another name they are still synonym and everybody knows what is talking about...

btw: systax is a more or less dead and uncompleted database for myriapods. chilobase is still quite good for centipedes (waiting for an update).
