I bought four 12" x 12" sheets of cork tile, the kind you would hang up on a wall and pin stuff to. It somewhat resembles bark and is cheaper than the stuff in pet stores. So I thought I would try it. I opened the plastic wrap and this stuff is giving off a strong odor. Is this stuff safe to use around tarantulas?

I would let it air out a little bit.. Maybe that would help stop the odor a little bit.

It depends one what glue they used and what that glue will do in contact with water, aired out or not. You might contact the manufacturer and see if they will share that detail with you.

cork board and cork bark are 2 different things. cork boards may actually contain resins and glues that bind the cork bark shavings, that are compressed to create cork board

Sometimes 'cork boards' aren't even made out of cork anymore. I would be wary of it, but if you are determined to use it, rinse it well with hot water and let it dry completely. That way if there is any residue on the outside, you have a better chance of ridding the pieces of it.

Personally though, I wouldn't put it in a T enclosure if it has a strong chemical smell to begin with; regardless of rinsing.

Don't risk it. I wouldn't trust the adhesive to stay solid and nontoxic in a humid environment.
