Cool little beetle

Found this dude on one of our ranch roads. It left an awesome looking trail, and held very still for me while I was taking its pic. Size was just over an inch.

I saw something just like that in New Mexico back in April -- cute little guys! There were these and darkling beetles, both leaving their little trails in the sand.
