Compost as a substrate?

Is it ok to use potting compost as a substrate instead of peat? I'm baking it in the oven to dry it out and sterilise it. Will it be ok?

hiya ;)

hmmm... check its not compost with chemicals in, like fertiliser and pesticdes

ive used sand from the beack before for some scorpions, i baked it though

No fertilizers or pesticides or anything like that. It's just got loam and some other water-holding bits in. Baked it dry and then mixed it up with some vermiculite.

I would not feel comfortable using any compost, what if the main component of the compost is sludge? there are many safer substrates IMHO.......
