I am doing a project for my art class and it involves a Tarantula Identification Book I am creating. I am starting with the list below and would like help identifying common names of certian T's. also please feel free to correct me and add to the list (If you add to the list please Give me both Scientific and Common name of the T) TYIA

In other fields (ornithology, herpetology) there are official standardized lists of common names, although those lists are sometimes controversial and challenged and periodically revised. Is there a similar standardized list for any groups of arachnids? Or do hobbyists and scientists simply lobby for their favorites?

According to Schultz there is a "Committee on Common Names of Arachnids of the American Arachnological Society" that has produced the Common Names of Arachnids. I'm not sure if it is available online.

Ceratogyrus spp. and Augacephalus spp. have some beautiful contrasting markings that would go well in your book. As well as Encyocratella olivacea.

It is available online. Here's the address: http://www.atshq.org/articles/acn5.pdf. The only problem is it's from 2003 so it's out of date and missing some of the more recent tarantulas.

Thanks very much for posting this. Given the many thousands of arachnid species out there, this effort is doomed to only cover the better known or most important species. Updating would be a pretty tough job, so there may not be a more recent edition.

It's also worth noting that the official list has some names slightly different than ones posted above.
