Well I went out last night with Amber (Sassafras) blacklighting and found about 9 scorpions in two hours 8 were C. vittatus and this one I'm not sure what it is, any ideas?

Enjoy:

It looks just like the V.coahuilae we caught in Carlsbad. They are also know to be found in Colorado. The other species that is similar looking and found here is P.boreus but from all the images of that species I have seen they are much shinier.

Atrax and I are going to have to plan a mini trip down your way and go collecting with you sometime...maybe later this summer. I'd really like to make a colony set-up of C.vittatus as well.

Frank,

Its possible, I have 7 V.c. and there is some variation...though Iwill need to take a good look at them once I get home to be sure...also the lightness/darkness of the dorsal surface varies some between individuals as well as in lighting conditions...Chad Lee has a pic of one of mine here:

http://www.geocities.com/redhourglass/photo.html

Its near the bottom of the page...there is also a P.gracilor pic of mine...the V.c. is actually a bit darker on its dorsal surface than the pic lets on...

Godzilla,

Toxicity of these scorps would be mild or very mild on the scale in Rubio's book...that's not to say that it won't hurt like hell...just that you probably won't get any serious symptoms from them.

Hi Matt, Amber and John !

It was great meeting you all and the others at the ATS 03 conference. Scott too LOL...

But yes, the scorpion looks like a V. russelli or the V. 'flavus' but whatever it is in the pic I look forward to seeing it under a scope and comparing it to Vaejovis specimens I have. This all has been in private email until I read up on the topic...

Thanks John for the pics and permission to post on the site.

Amber and Matt, I look forward to our correspondence via email or here.

All the best,

Sinc. Chad
