I need to collect Stags, Rhino's, Long horns, Carabids and jewel beetles. What methods can i use to attract them? Would the uv trap work on beetles? Also what are the sort of areas i want to look for these beetles?

Whenever I flip over rocks/logs etc... I always find Carabids, they seem to be very easy! Just thought that little bit of info might help, sorry I can't assist more! I found Stags, Carabids and Jewel beetles always by gas station or porch lights.

Yeah I too would be interested in what would attract carabids. Flipping over 100 rocks or logs to find only a handful of carabids isn't worth the effort sometimes, especially when you encounter more rattlesnakes than carabids.

go get bug zappers de-zap them (take the wire mesh out and cover the wires up with tape) and then go out and place them on a big white sheet, thats what i do when i collect insects

You Can Also Use Pit Fall Traps,i Personaly Use 5 Gallon Buckets For This ,(usualy For Lizards) But If You Need Beetles ,you Will Need One With A Lid ,cut Out The Center Of The Lid Just Big Enough For A 2 Litre Plastic Coke Bottle To Fit Into It ,cut Off The Bottom Of The Bottle ,turn It Upside Down Tape It Flush With The Top Of The Bucket Lid ,this Acts Like A Funnel Down Into The Bucket And Prevents Escape, now Go Dig A Hole Bury The Bucket Up To The Top Ground Level And Wait ,you Can Also Put Some Flake Gold Fish Food In There (this Will Attract All Kids Of Cool Stuff)but You Need To Chek It At Least Daily ,also You Can Cover The Hole Up With A Large Coffee Can Turned Upside Down Over The Hole When It Rains ,so The Bucket Doesnt Fill Up With Water.a Friend Of Mine Taught Me How To Build These Traps About 15 Years Ago,and It Works Well Most Of The Time....good Luck!!! Hope You Cath Lots Of Bugs...:)

I've found a lot of neat beetles and moths near those bug zappers. Some years, even a spider or two camps out nearby on the pole for the good supply of bugs drawn in and grew real big. Let us know what you find!
