When I got my "Kitana" last February, I knew of their characteristic of webbing their burrows so they are well hidden. I decided to take a picture every day to document her progress. Hope you enjoy! :)

And then she was gone, like mine.
Its a real highlite to my week, if I can see her once.

BTW, welcome. I hope you stick around.:D

I'm guessing that was a premade burrow? How did you do it?

LOL!!! Yep, then she was gone!!! I've seen her out now and then, mostly when I surprise her unexpectedly at night. I love how she never ever moves in light! I've never seen her walk around or move aside from the first day she came home and got transferred into her new tank.

Thanks for the welcome and I do plan to stick around :D

hillie16: The burrow is a foamarium insert that leaves a nice view into the burrow when the T is hiding. That is, untill the tarantula webs it up!!!

On a side note, I just discovered that she molted!!! I'm planning to take her out of her tank and clean it up which will include removing her precious webbing so she can do it all over again!

i believe a lot of T's will deposit the molt outside their burrows if they don't rip it to shreds first....

Malhavoc's: I found out she had molted by getting myself a strong flashlight and really squinting to see what was in her burrow. At first I was quite worries cause I only saw a bit of a leg and it wasn't in a natural position. With more checking, I found the top peice of the cephalo-thorax and knew then it was a peice from a molt.

Most the time they will push the molt outside but some don't seem to care if it's in there. As far as how you tell on one you can't see... sometimes you really cant till you catch a glimpse of extra legs one day. :) Flashlights work pretty well also for making out the shape of the molt as well as the spider depending of course on how thick they web it up on ya.

Great...........

I like that set-up, it looks really great, and the spider is happy!:) I have used foam as well. I get a block of florists foam, from the craft store, and carve it to a "u" shape or a half of a "u", for my slings. Then I can see them all the time, when they are in the burrow, and they do not seem to care. I got this idea from the old T book from advanced vivarium systems, by Phillippe deVosjoli, " Arachnomania". It works great, and very rarely do they cover up the viewing area.:)

we have a cobalt blue that should be molting anytime soon hopefully in the next week or so. we were just wondering where you got the supplies to build the burrow or was it something that you bought. our cobalt digs her own burrow in vermiculite so we dont see her unless she is out in the middle of night
