This is a Eresus niger. Cool huh ? Hmm. How did a spider know what a lady bug looked like to evolve spots like one ? Or is it mere coinsidence ! :? ;)

Most likley, this is a case of Batesian mimicry, where an edible creature (the spider) mimics an inedible (or at least bad tasting) one (the lady beetle). Lady beetles have a foul taste to most predators, so birds (for example) would probably pass over a spider that looks like one.

I found it on the web. I thought it was sooo cool had to post. Apparently they are rare, and protected.

Eresidae

The Eresidae are awesome. That specimen is a male as the female Eresus niger is all black while the male is brightly colored. This is true with most males in the family Eresidae.
