I have been checking for signs of that since day one, so this must be some sort of delayed hatching of eggs or something.

My data may be old but you will have 21 days of worms. The de-wormer won't affect the eggs so 3 weeks of hatching out. Now if they have the cat equivalent of Ivermectin it's no big deal as it stays active in the gut for three weeks.

This is going to be the hardest part. Because if the worms are out, there will be eggs here and there . I know you are good on the cleaning. Just make sure you vaccum extra places: where it goes to sleep and sit. The eggs can drop when there is contact with anus/licking. Thats how they spread so quickly.

i dont want to scare you, just help/inform. Although you probably know this, but maybe not someone reading this:

the worms can be transfered to humans. Extra handwashing will be important. Until the issue is resolved. I would avoid kissing the cat.

a cat collar could assist in reducing the licking of infectious zones. That does stress cats though.

as a kid, i got worms. I was always petting outdoor cats and dogs. It was a horrible physical and psycological feeling. One i still feel disgust about. But i it puts me in a place where i know what i am talking about. My parents had to clean the bed sheets often, the bathroom. The shame that was put on me, just a child, was terrible. I now live with an obsession of cleaning my hands. I am always washing my hands after i touch anything, and dont pet animals i dont know.

even animals i do know, who are treated, i barely pet. I wash my hands asap after.

a few years ago, a person i knew, got them while traveling. She was a grown women. It happens.

A very common method of transmission is animals sniffing feces or each other's butts. Or their licking themselves back there. The eggs can even go airborne. This is why vets assume worm infestations in all their patients that aren't strictly kept isolated indoors.
At stables we always dose Ivermectin every 2 to 3 months. Speaking of which, always administter Ivermectin on a completely empty stomach. Otherwise it will get carried out with the feed and not remain active in the gut. Same applies to humans. Dose 2 to 3 hours before or after eating.

He does like to sit on the foot of the bed. I can't be washing blankets every time he sits on it though.


I don't get these money hungry vets that don't seem to actually care about the animals.
That being said this appointment can't come fast enough. I just want to get the meds and get the ball rolling.

I know people that grew up with outdoor cats that were always battling worms. They never had issues with them transferring to people but they did have issues with constantly having to pay for medications to battle them.

Ironic since they could have chosen to condition future generations of their kittens to be indoor only but they were too lazy and stubborn to see logic or reason.

The ones I saw on mine look more like tapeworms , not ringworms. Still disgusting though.

Agree. Looks like tapeworm segments. Academic really as the treatment will be the same. But be prepared for a surprise after worming. The worm will often come out whole or in a few parts. And can be several feet long.
Weird memories. Working the vets office monitoring worm evacuation in a series of cats and dogs. Hour after hour as these long weird things slowly emerge.

Well he went two more times again last night. This is getting ridiculous. This Friday appointment for the worms cannot come soon enough and I want that neutering scheduled ASAP. I hope to God that solves this issue.

He's also started meowing annoyingly when we try to go to bed, which unfortunately might possibly be related to this at least some of the time.

Last night was better. He didn't do it. I also played with him for a while before bed so he was tired. Hopefully that will help with all this.

Unrelated to the marking issue I can't wait to get those meds going for the tapeworms. He got sick this morning and threw up, most likely because of those stupid worms. It's one of the side effects.

Even us invertebrate keepers have our limits. I hate parasites, including tapeworms, ringworms, mosquitoes, ticks, etc. They have no purpose and I wish they were endangered instead of Pokies.

Been to the vet, got a (topical???) treatment for the tape worms.

He said neutering will have zero impact on night time peeing randomly and night meowing. I am not convinced of that. I agree he might be trying to get our attention and as of now I will cease any night time interaction in response to his night meowing. My biggest issue is the urinating. I guess I will have to increase spraying the anti urine formula if he does it again. I just hate dealing with this garbage.

Regarding the neutering, I can't figure out why this dude was so neutral about it. Obviously it doesn't take a genius to realize that an intact male will have the hormonal drive to wander, mate, etc which I am convinced is one of the factors of this uptick in night time behavior issues the last 2 weeks. Vets are like human doctors , it pays to have multiple opinions.

Anyway, the place is closed for next week (seriously???) So I have an appointment for the following week for the neutering.

Try to find local places that cater to the homeless with pets. If you have one, they charge less and are the real deal.

topical for worms is nothing i ever heard of. Maybe its new since i had pets. I dont get it. Its INSIDE.

diatomaceous earth. Read on it. Might help you. Its known for internal parasite usage. Ppl use it on chickens that they feed on. Do your research and see for yourself. For the meantime. Sometimes researching feels like youre doing something helpful.

Last night was better. Got a plug in that releases a chemical that is said to calm them down. Maybe it worked.

In any case, there was no meowing or urinating last night. It was actually a normal night which is how it should be.

I really think the neutering is going to be the biggest help with this whole thing. The fact that when he's done it in the past it's been at night is a big factor. Even basic googling will tell you night time is when intact males will wander and do all that hormone fueled activity.

It's coz he is a tom he is letting you know this is his house it happens with all Tom's eventually. I have kept cats 36 years , I look after strays from the railway our the bk of my house , my mum worked with a cat charity fostering cats dogs n once a pig lol and i currentlycare for 4 abandoned cats in my home. All Tom's will spray its part of how they make stuff theirs , it won't matter how much you scrub and change the litter instinct tells them they need to mark their territory, the fact next door has a cat will go a long way towards it. Cats smell is phenomenal your boy will be able to smell next door and he is making sure next door can smell him to
They tell you getting them spayed will help but it won't it will just make him spray less. I actually have a tom called Mr Malfoy a stray from the tracks I am having this problem with atm, he has been chopped but he still pees , he never used to but we recently had a queen dumped on us from round the corner n soon as she came he started marking.
You just have to keep scrubbing till they sort it out and decide to stop you can try every trick n tip but in the end cats gunna cat n a tom will mark his territory chopped or not, can't stop nature.
As for worms n fleas keep ontop of the meds for them and scrub everything with Dawn dish soap, yes Dawn. It's the best flea killer out there all the rehabs use it to wash everything because it melts fleas. I import it at £9 per bottle because it works that well. Better then any over the counter flea stuff.

Cats are amazing loving creatures don't let some pee put you off. Think of it as he is just growing up and getting confident and comfortable in his home so he is making it smell like him too as it already smells like you, he is just joining in

Every other puddle has the well known pungent male cat smell they do to mark.

His trauma can also be a factor as well as the male cat outside and what not. But the neutering will quell the hormonal stuff.
