i have them in deli cups with an inch of sand and feeding them 2 pin heads a week. i'd like to know if their's anything else i should do. when should they get their 1st molt? when can i move them to a tank?they're still white. i've already lost about 10 all together right after moving them. i've got a lot left still. if i can get some fast info on care for young from u guys, i'd appreciate it.

These guys are very difficult to raise to adulthood...if you can manage to do it you would be the first. Ed (Atavuss) is the person I have heard make it the furthest so far...4th instar for a few of them I think?

Good Luck.

They are already 1st instar if you have had them for three weeks...2nd instar might be several months as Hadrurus sp take several years to mature...though they may live as long as 20+ years.

the ones that just molted would be 4th instar. I left mine with the mother until they had all dispersed from her back and they did not run to her for protection anymore. it has been at least 10 months since their last molt. as per personal communication with Strider Smith they molt around once a year.

Rainman any special reason you took them off the mothers back so soon?

when I noticed my h. spadix had given birth I put her in the closet in my herp/invert room and did not disturb her for weeks. if the young are/were still white you may have removed them too early IMHO.

The scorpions that you raised and traded to a pet store did you take them off the mothers back right away?

i traded most of the spadix ones for an adult male, or female. i cant remember. the rest i was raising have all died now. i have no idea why. but with my new found knowledge i think i'll know in advance for future cases. but hey, at least i got another desert hairy outta the deal. but i really cared for those babies. lame how they just died after i had everything right. i think it was form me moving them from the mother's back right away. it was see them get eaten, or try and save them. i lost them either way. lose-lose situation i guess.

Maybe the mom just ate one that was too weak, maybe she wasn't eating all the batch.
