Hello. I live in Canada, Alberta. Close to medicine hat. The Ariel where I live is mostly prairie with a small lake near by. There are a few spiders in the area but I only keep wolf spiders from the wild cuz I find them most interesting. Can anyone help identify this species please. I am not sure if it's an adult. Only had it for about 2 weeks. Very good eater. It's maybe 1/4 inch. Sorry for the poor pictures. I have to zoom in quite a bit and lower my picture quality or else it says too large of a file to upload... Kinda sad considering I got a 4k camera phone just for better pictures lol

Oh also before someone says just google it. I have tried. ALOT! I don't think there is a very accurate list of wild spiders found in Alberta because I found lots of lists and websites and alot of them don't even have half of what I already found thought the years of looking for spiders. Expecialy wolf spiders. I found pictures of this exact species but no actual name or info on it other than that it exists here in Alberta. Weird.

In my opinion it's probably a pardosa something.

That's a nice spider you've got there! All i could find is this website https://spiderid.com/locations/canada/?fwp_paged=3.
You know your spider best, maybe you are able to identify it
Thank you. Unfortunately I already looked on the website before and found the one I have but it's listed as "unidentified" I know for sure it's a Pardosa wolf Spider just want to know exactly Wich species. Oh well might just have to settle with what I got. Thank you anyway 🙂

coloration and locale makes it a pretty good match for Pardosa fuscula
I agree. Thank you very much. It's a bit brighter the pictures I sent don't show it well but could be a different color morph. It's quite common around here and in wolf spiders to be of the same species and to have varying coloration but the same pattern.

where i live there are multiple different Pardosa sp that makes identification to a species level off a picture impossible. Maybe it's the same in yours?

Yeah it hard to take a good picture tbh. My phone has a 4 k camera but it makes the file size ridiculous and there is a limit to the size you can upload here sadly so I had to use my 10 year old phone lol I found 3 more species today in my area. Might post picture.

I agree, the banding and location does indicate a P. fuscula.

Found this beauty today. It's one inch and I never seen it before in my life.

Found this lovely spider about 30 km from my home. I live near Calgary Alberta. I have never seen it before. This species specificity. I see lots of wolf spiders but most are less then 1/2 inch some maybe 3/4 but this one is a bit over an inch and also very different from the others in coloration and pattern. The ones I usually see are thin legged wolf spiders with grey darker grey collies or brown with 2 black stripes. I was hopping someone could identify this species. Thank you

Cool looking spider.

I wonder if the black stripes are a subterfuge to resemble eyes to make the spider look larger or more menacing.

Sorry, I can’t help help you identify the species as my knowledge of true spiders is very limited
