@Dark You forget one thing. You say "whatsoever", but sometimes there are such things called exceptions, as @myrmecophile stated. Try not to use that term so loosely if the question covers a broad and/or general topic, especially when there are quite a few native species in California. Sorry if this is making me sound like a jerk, but I think communication is key in getting a point across.
I already somewhat researched this a few months ago and in California it's pretty much illegal to own a stick insect. You CAN get like two permits that will take like an entire year (Not sure but I've heard about long waits). Even then, there are still many stick insects you can't have. At least it is possible to own one xD. Don't ask me about evidence and stuff as I don't have them anymore. I don't wanna go looking for that stuff again.
