These are easy to breed but has anyone taken down gestation data and successfully raised them. I hear the s'lings molting can be problematic. This is one of the few Buthid species I am going to be breeding this year or next and want some additional insights.

If it doesn't quite meet much success, well maybe some experimental techniques will be in order for the s'lings which I am more than willing.

Sagely advice?

That's an interesting contradiction; they are easy to breed, but you don't know if someone has raised them:confused:

I have never heard of them being easy to breed, nor can't I remember to see scorplings for sale... I think you'll do very well keeping the adults alive for 1-2 years without mycosis infections.

In my opinion Buthacus leptochelys is one of the most restless, defensive scorpions I have ever kept. I have one gravid female, but I wonder if she will ever feel like giving birth...

That was a complete inference to Eric Ythier's caresheet whose opinion I feel I can trust.

In bold, that is the type of elusive information I am seeking.

Last week I had two females give birth. I didn't mate them so I can't help you on gestation time. But I counted one females brood and she had 21 scorplings and I have to count the other female's brood today.

The babies themselves are 12 mm long and they are the fastest scorplings I've ever seen.

Awesome! Keep us updated and I'll probably be shooting some PMs your way. I have two breeding pairs coming in Wednesday.

If I meet success *fingers crossed*, and have been compiling research, be sure to keep a detailed record.

Just got finished counting the second brood and there is 25 babies! I ran out of deli cups and black sand. Here's three things to consider-

1. the babies are a very dull yellow almost transparant, so if you plan to breed these have some black sand on hand for when you are seperating them.

2. In both cases I shifted the sand and found babies buried. My guess is since this species like to dig a lot, the mother buried some of her youngs.

3. I got these girls as really skinny adults so after feeding them I attempted to breed them. As soon as one found the other (I didn't know how to sex these) one killed each faster than I could blink, from what I've seen this species are very aggressive towards each other.

Hopefully Andre2 will let us know how precisely long his scorp has been gravid and if it arrived in his possession already gravid or that he indeed bred it himself. If the latter is true and from what I gathered it is an advanced species to propogate in captivity. But I like a challenge.

And oh thanks for the hints and good luck!

Well, it's difficult to say. Like Marcelo I bought an adult WC female, which was already mated. I bought her about 9 months ago... For the past 2 months I was expecting the birth, but nothing happened....

So, unfortunately I can not answer your question about the gestation-time. Only my estimate that will be close to a year or more.

Boy, those scorplings will be fast! I surely believe that!!
