Hi, I am thinking of brreding my chileans rose ts, but seeing as though this is my first breeding attempt, I haver a question. I think I have it all from prviouis threads and books, but I cant understand when people talk about "pulling sacs". Why would you do this? What is wrong with just leaving them with the mother? Any other advice and/or tips is very much appreciated.

well pulling the sac is just to make sure the mom doesn't eat it... plus you can open the sac and moniter the growth, remove bad eggs and such. allthough I would say just leave it with mom for the first time. if she eats that one then next time pull it... also from what I hear avics are easier. I am curently trying both.

oh yeah let me throw my question on here too... how does one go about taking a sac from the mother?? do you just wait untill she drops it for a second? or do you just try to pull it away? feed her and get it while she is eating?? i really have no idea. and can't find any info on this

No real set way to do it. Easiest way I've found is two pair of tweezers. One to grab the sack and one to push the mom off of it. They will try and hang on but you can get it loose with a little effort. Some species will put it down for a bit from time to time but you would have to luck up and catch her in the right moment.

The breeding end of things went fairly well. I've done quite a bit of T breeding since then and once you get used to it, it's not too bad. You will get a feel for a breeding approach vs an attack. The key is to be quick enough with your paint brush/wooden spoon to prevent the male's demise. Good luck to you.
