Hello!
Maybe this is a dumb question but I am getting into jumping spider keeping . I have a couple right now and want to get the ropes of caring for them down pat first and eventually want to move up to breeding them. I have tried finding what permits I need (I live in Texas) to breed my adults and then sell any spood babies I get but have so far been unsuccessful in my findings.(I'm a crap googler)My question is, does anyone know of what is legal in Texas and what is not? Thanks in advance!

What species of jumper are they? I'm new to keeping jumping spiders too and have been doing a lot of research. I'll share some links that might help you get started. I do not know what the laws are for selling spiders in Texas. I googled and found a Reddit thread that might help. Someone there said it is legal as long as you use FedEx. https://arachnoboards.com/threads/breeding-laws-in-texas.352670/

Jumping spiders are not specifically mentioned on the Texas Parks and Wildlife site but I imagine that they would be the people to ask. Here is a link to their page so you can send a message https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/

I tried to find a breeder in Texas that might be able to help you but wasn't able to turn up anything. The closest I found was World of Phids in Oklahoma. They ships all over the country so I am sure they would know. Here is a link to their contact page https://worldofphids.com/resources-&-shipping-info

Something you will want to look into if you are breeding any species that is not found in every state across the US is the Lacey Act which just passed the House and is going to the Senate.

To get you started with jumping spider care, @egyptiancrow put together a great sheet that has helped me a lot https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dx0tlu1Fbtni_u_r88KbUWmN9Os7_AEazqTmF766buo/edit

Also, check out Snake Discovery on YouTube. They have great videos about jumper care and breeding. https://www.youtube.com/c/SnakeDiscovery

Hope that helps and I'm here if you have any questions about how to care for your new friends!

indeed you must use FEDEX 2 or overnight shipping, and i recommend to use it in conjunction with a reptile shipping company like Shipyourreptiles, which is what I use. there are no laws about selling jumping spiders- yet.

Awesome! Bolds are found all over the country so you should have no issues there. Regals are not found in the northern states. I'm really hoping the exotic pen ban doesn't become a law. Even if it does, they will release a whitelist so it may not apply to jumping spiders. US ARK is a great resource to stay up-to-date https://usark.org/2022lacey/

Good luck on your new business!
