Brandon pulled a funny little stunt at the spider party tonight. I had purchased an "unsexed" B. vagans last year and my first impression was that "unsexed"usually means male. When I saw the critter, it was leggy and thin and I figured out it was a male. I took it to last year's spider party, where other more experienced people confirmed this spider was a male.
So I end up keeping this critter because I can't find anyone who wants a male B. vagans. It molted a few months ago and I was so afraid I was going to find those little "boxing gloves" on him, but no, they were not to be. I figured maybe he just wasn't mature yet so I figured one more molt and he would be mature.
Tonight, as I am trying to honor my husband's request and cut back on my number of spiders (partially to help make things easier as we try to sell our condo and get ready to move to a house), I take the spider to the party in the hopes someone will want him.
And then, good old Brandon strikes.....
He picks the male up and says though it is a little thin, he thinks it is actually a female. I'm thinking if it's a female, I don't really want to let it go since I happen to like that species. Before I can say anything, Brandon decides to prove his point......
He gets out a mature male B. vagans he just happens to have with him, and proceeds to stick him into the container with my
critter. It takes him absolutely no time for him to get the job done and "she" gives him no resistance until the mating has taken place and he makes his escape back into the safety of Brandon's hands.
Meanwhile, Brandon is looking at my husband and apologizing.
It was just TOOOOOO funny! My husband actually got to see
some "spider porn" in real life! (I had seen it before, but this is the first time I have a female being serviced by a male).
What a wonderful surprise!!!!
