Brandon's Little Surprise! ;)

Brandon pulled a funny little stunt at the spider party tonight. I had purchased an "unsexed" B. vagans last year and my first impression was that "unsexed"usually means male. When I saw the critter, it was leggy and thin and I figured out it was a male. I took it to last year's spider party, where other more experienced people confirmed this spider was a male.

So I end up keeping this critter because I can't find anyone who wants a male B. vagans. It molted a few months ago and I was so afraid I was going to find those little "boxing gloves" on him, but no, they were not to be. I figured maybe he just wasn't mature yet so I figured one more molt and he would be mature.

Tonight, as I am trying to honor my husband's request and cut back on my number of spiders (partially to help make things easier as we try to sell our condo and get ready to move to a house), I take the spider to the party in the hopes someone will want him.

And then, good old Brandon strikes.....

He picks the male up and says though it is a little thin, he thinks it is actually a female. I'm thinking if it's a female, I don't really want to let it go since I happen to like that species. Before I can say anything, Brandon decides to prove his point......
He gets out a mature male B. vagans he just happens to have with him, and proceeds to stick him into the container with my
critter. It takes him absolutely no time for him to get the job done and "she" gives him no resistance until the mating has taken place and he makes his escape back into the safety of Brandon's hands.

Meanwhile, Brandon is looking at my husband and apologizing.

It was just TOOOOOO funny! My husband actually got to see
some "spider porn" in real life! (I had seen it before, but this is the first time I have a female being serviced by a male).

What a wonderful surprise!!!! :)

That's funny, LOL.
Brandon is a good guy.;)
We're lucky to have him close by.
He makes me laugh.

re: Brandon

Yeah, he's a sweetie. I don't remember seeing you at
the party. Were you there? (There were a few people
whose names I forgot to get though I recognized their
faces).

I should get to bed now. but it takes me a little while to
unwind after I've had so much fun at a spider party! :)

B. vagans and Smileys

I posted the same original message at petbugs and got a pretty scary reply. Someone told me it is entirely possible that an immature male would assume the position of the female and appear to be bred. I sure hope that's not the case here!

P.S. How do I get some of those more unusual types of
smileys here? I wanted the "Duh" smiley but I didn't know how to make that one. (I know the frown, wink, smile, ones, but that's about it).

Thanks for your help. :)

Do I need to single click? I've been double clicking and trying to drag it to where I want it.

Hate to tell you Dawn, but whomever on PB told you that immature males will assume the position was correct. I've known people who have mated two t's to have the supposed female molt out male shortly thereafter. It happened with a "female" usumbara that my male was bred to....

Yeah, someone else confirmed what the first person said. Brandon says he actually saw the insertion. The male inserted one palp and the other too. I was too shocked to noticed that much detail. I'm just wondering where a mature male would insert his palps into if the other wasn't a female? :?
