Brachypelma epicureanum

In 2008 I was in Yucatan to search for Brachypelma epicureanum. (also see: http://www.mantid.nl/tarantula/epicureanum.html )

This trip was in the dryseason, so no adult males yet. This year I returned to North Yucatan to see the males of this species. We were Lucky enough to find both Males and females.

note the long red setae on the abdomen curling upward.
Mating and compare B. epicureanum to the redrump species we found in south Yucatan.

Gorgeous T and pics. Are the males brighter in color than the females regarding the red, I couldn't tell in the mating pic due to different angles of abdomen? What size do both genders get?

the red is the same in both sexes. these get about 5". it is one of the smaller Brachypelma.

Very interesting info, don't always see that in Ts at times.

By same size do you mean their DLS, or the size of their body segments too? Males typically are spindly and "leggy" in appearance than females with generally speaking. So if they are physically the same, that would be very interesting.
