I noticed these marking starting to appear on one of my Brachypelma emilias. I do not have the sex of this one yet. I am guessing male at the moment. Waiting for a molt.

it is around 2 inches.

I searched around and did not find any exact matching answers. So far, i am assuming it is a natural side effect of ageing, which would disappear after a molt.

i have no other ideas and was curious to see if this is something that happens on tarantulas in general.

do you know what it is? Have you seen this before?

Is it not hairs rubbed off, looks like that to me, but could be wrong.

It is not impossible. I just didnt expect balding on a carapace. I was under the impression that happened on the abdomen mostly.

Hairs rubbing off should reveal black, B boehmei though

On the B Emilia even the black leg banding is faded.

I've read speculation that keeping them on the dry side can lend to more faded colors.

Yours is very pronounced, thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your contribution. That could explain things. The top of my enclosure is kept dry, and the lower level is humid because that is where i send my water.

i have two B emilias and my female who just molted, is way richer in color. Her balding has also completely vanished. They are both kept the same. They both have options of being in the humid bottom, the mid section and top.

if it is just hair rubbing off then i dont have to worry about it. If it turns out to be something problematic, then i will have to change my approach.

so far, they seem to behave like they would in nature. They arent climbing the ceilings anymore either.

even when i water the lower sections, they have not come out running and screaming.

i am also keeping a “moist” patch on the top layer just in case.
