Poecilotheria,

I hope that you read all the posts in this thread and the others from the H. gigas thread.

Try to understand were I and others are coming from. We do worry about the safety of those who get bitten, but 3 times in a month is not something that should happen.

This hobby does not need that type of publicity, we need to show the many positive sides of it. Yes there is a possibility of getting bit, but with responsible handling this is great hobby and a livelyhood for many people.

I'm not going to slam you, but take the opinions of these people who have posted and who are trying to help you.

Out of 26 T's, I have only one OW and I respect the hell out of it. But I also respect all my others for what the are, a wild animal that has it's ways of defending themselves. If I were to get bit, it would be from me doing something dumb or not having the knowledge of the T that I was dealing with.

Have fun in this hobby, there's no need to deal with what you are dealing with now.

Steve,

I do think that it is only fair that you answer some of our questions. Where on your body were you bitten? Can you please post a picture of the actual bites? And please explain the circumstances in detail of each bite and what led up to it and eventually causing it to happen?

I hope that you can find the courage to honestly answer these questions for us.

Also, it might help others (assuming you were indeed bitten) to post these 2 additional bites in the Bite Reports forum, please make sure you give plenty of details. :)

Thanks,

Debby

If you know it is coming, then why post anyways? Unless you want it to come -- ?

Sorry Debby, I think someone has a brother. Next we'll hear about how he was bitten by the famed Canadian Tarantula while drinking "bloodied" chocolate milk. Unless he can come up with some photos or proof, ban him for disinformation. I've got better things to do with my time than wade through the posts to try to determine what is true and what isn't.

Ok...don't mean to get "out of line" becuase I am typically a nice guy...but:

Place your bets for what bites him in the next 3 days!!!!!

I am sorry to hear of your misfortune, but can you just tell us what you were doing when bitten?

Man I won't even go in my rosea's cage for the past 3 weeks becuase he has been acting iffy...and thats a ROSEA! damn I am even scared of my little 1 1/2 OBT now even though people swear up and down he won't bite.

I was educating a lady at work today who is just fascinated with the pics of my T's and she was asking about holding them and stuff, and I told her about the coolness of Ozzy(OBT) becuase one day he 99.9% will be well an OBT and she was like why...and I said because I respect him and you need at least one "bitey" to make your collection complete, and I am a novice and got him as a FREEBIE...but I treat him like a rabid dog...man i finally worked up the nerve to let him on my finger for a pre and post moult pic...but I was sweating bullets...and I knew the risk of what i was doing...

I am an adult and take responsibility for my actions...but I would most definetely say that if I was irresponsible enough to manage to get bit 3 times in two weeks, I wouldn't post about leaving the hobby, I would just do it and move and never look back....

It's like someone buying a pitbull...being bit...and buying another...and messing with him, being bit, then buying another and messing with him and being bit....after the 3rd for SURE, I would be looking at that person going...uh...what the hell are you doing...

I will assume you are a teen, maybe even younger...and I hope peoples reactions don't have any BAD lasting effects but I sure as hell hope they make sense and you figure out what is going on and start thinking and acting mature and move on...and damn you have WAY to many T's if you get bit this much....do they roam around your room freely?

Ok...how many times have you actually been bit?

Oh yeah and I put my money on a Pokey bite next...if he has one!

I'm thinking chainmail gloves??? I hear Kevlar works beautifully...

Seriously, PLEASE don't go near your OW's EVER AGAIN! Have someone come over and take them far, far away. And try not to p*ss off any NW either. The venom may not be so bad, but it will still hurt. And PLEASE DON"T GET BIT BY A POKIE!!!!!!!

:D If all else fails, I'm with the whole goldfish thing.....

I dont know how anyone can think this guy is even seriously. He is so full of sh%$ its not even funny, after being bitten by the first one you would think that someone would have enough common sense i think he liked all the attention he got so he decided hey why not tell another bs story.

OK people,

Enough with the certain references to a certain someone. :)

You know who I am talking about (notice the lack of mentioning names) and to those who don't, don't worry about it. ;)

Ok.... without bashing, I have to throw in my agreement about banning this guy for posting missinformation, and that none of us need to waste time wading through false horror stories, NOT TO MENTION the effect this and related threads from this source must be having on the parade of new members to this board, myself included in that last part, as I've only been a member for less than a week myself!

Though I've been keeping NW T's for about as long as this kid's been breathing, I'm not considering myself an expert by any standard due to my own sporadic involvement in researching updated info and talking in public forums like this. Being new to this site my first concern is "will I be provided with trustworthy info by way of the TRUELY experienced keepers weeding out the attention seeking (explicative deleted) who throw out answers to every question with no regard to the potential problems their missinformation may cause?" , and if this kid is allowed to remain a member then the answer is a screaming "NO!"

I am sure that MANY of you, perhaps even MOST of you who are tossing out answers in various threads are indeed experienced keepers and answering based on research and years of personal experience, so please don't take offense with my concern in this matter. An honest "best guess" is even appriciated if the guesser makes it clear that he/she is making such a guess and that the info being provided isn't "scripture from the T bible". But anyone who can either get bit by 3 hot species in under 3 weeks, or is so desperate for attention that they'll tell lies like this for it, is a danger in more ways than I care to count.

Were it me, having run boards similar to this in the past, I'd IP ban him for at least 6 months if not permenantly. If this seems harsh I'm sorry, but it's not nearly as harsh as the punishment that will be inflicted on new keepers coming to this forum for accurate info on how to responsibly keep their T's and getting god knows what missinformation from someones "tall tales" and "falsified experiences" that this type of person would surely be all too happy to provide just for the attention he think it will get him.

Just my opinion...

I'm think he's just making these threads as an excuse on why he is selling all of his tarantula's. (which he probably doesnt even own) Becuase didnt someone say how he was trying to sell stuff, but then saying it died AFTER he got the money for it? (its something like that, I dont feel like going back and looking for the post)

So basically, he just wants to sucker people into giving him money for the tarantula's that he is saying that he owns, and then ripping them off.

I agree that he should be banned, and this thread should be locked. But, its not my site. Its up to Scott.

Personally, I think he recieved one bite, liked the attention he got and then made up stores about subsequent bites. It's all BS if you ask me. Bitten by medically significant tarantulas this often could very well do permanant damage or put him in a hospital for a while. I also think that nobodies parents are that stupid or irresponsible to allow these kinds of things to happen.

And hey presto, another 3 page thread relating to an improbable chain of events with no feedback from the threadstarter.

Don't feed the trolls ;)

What's with this guy? Is he nuts?

If I was hit by a car, I would learn to look where I was going. If I burnt my hand on the stove I would be more careful around it in future. If I was bitten by a dog, I would not be able to help myself but to have a new respect for dogs. Any of these things, I would not be able to help myself but to be more cautious in future. That's what being human is. Can you see where this is going?

If I was bitten by any tarantula, I would not be the same person again. I would be the most careful and cautious T owner in town. No question. If this guy is not learnig from these incidents then it's because they have not happened. End of story. If this guy is giving the hobby a bad name then do not allow him to post here any more. What happened to Jacen Beers when he could not provide evidence to back up his tall stories? Exactly. This is the kind of thing that makes me not want to post on these boards. As somebody who is new to the hobby this kind of BS is really bad as it means I cannot trust what I read on here any more. Let's ask ourselves if this is the kind of thing we want to read? Not me.

Whoa, back up a minute hoss :)

Would you prefer a forum which is genuinely moderated (your every post goes into a queue for someone to read over before it ever gets posted to a thread)? Or maybe you'd prefer a forum with 1/10th (if that) the traffic of this one which isn't as attractive to trolls, but is equally less attractive to the experienced people you apparently do want to read.

The downside to a board with this many members is you're going to get a few idjits in the crowd, that's humanity for you. This is further aggravated in that we're late into summer when there are too many HS students with nothing better to do than yank people's chains or otherwise seek attention. But the upside is that with so many members, there is going to be someone who spots the BS and reveals it as such.

So, no, no one can promise you that every single thing you read on a board like this is 100% true, and some things are just not established solidly enough that you can find the naked truth no matter how much you read. But this board along with Arachnid_world and ATS_enthusiast are the only 3 lists/forums that I think are worth the screen pixels they're rendered with.

Ok, maybe got a bit carried away there. I just don't like it when this kind of stuff is in the forum.

I'm not going to believe the guy for a second, three bites in as many weeks. Yes, and I am the Pope. If Poecilitheria can prove his statement, I'll do the same;)

No, but he is doing a great job of going through all the 'H' species, isn't he?
