I have an organization that I have used to release Birdwing Butterflies (Ornithoptera species) I thought I would share some photos. Global Zoological is the name.
@JRoe I still see them turning up in display boxes sold to the tourists now and then. My brother in law and his cronies, Hmong, won't hesitate to catch them for a quick hefty profit thanks to those fools supporting the illegal trade.
Why these idiot tourists are so completely brain dead escapes me. Impossible to take out of the country or ship and if someone managed to get the box home it would be a matter of weeks before the boxes held disintegrating trash since the victims inside aren't properly preserved.
And of course, zero interest from the local extortionists, police, in curtailing the trade. No kickbacks in chasing the local hill tribes around.
In some future time in a more enlightened society global tourists will need to have a license to travel, the license obtained by taking a written and oral test demonstrating knowledge of the CITES and sworn under oath adherence to the conventions. Countries non signatory to CITES will be labeled pariahs and subjected to heavy sanctions.
