Indeed, quite impressive(I've heard of 5 years, however). 2-3 years seems about average for most. What temps is yours kept at?
I keep him at room temps. The water usually stays pretty warm. I keep him in a bowl but i clean it often and use a small amount of large river rocks at the bottom for ease of cleaning, however, i am going to probably upgrade to a 2.5 gallon tank for him with a small HOB filter and maybe do some live plants.

I think that heating for some species depends on how warm/cold people keep the room at. Some people i know keep their house at like 60-65..... in this case, ANY fish should have some kind of heat source IMO. I am a freak, and i always keep the temps to the point of being like a sweat box though.

Harold is an ornery little fellow, but i enjoy his company.

Yeah but the heater doesn't just heat the water, it keeps the temps stable. Even a day/night change in temps can put some fish into shock.

I learned that one time the hard way lol....

I had a bunch of expensive tetras in my planted tank one time, and the heater stopped working and i didn't know it. Well they all ended up dying and man was i upset. That is when i went out and spent the money on a Hydor (i think they are called?) those are good heaters.

How often you clean it will depend on the size of the bowl and the amount you feed him. You should test the water for ammonia every day, count how many days until it registers on the kit. Then you subtract a day and that's how often you change the water. For example, if it registered ammonia on the fifth day, you would change the water every four days.

As a guideline, in a bowl that is taken care of properly (ex. not overfeeding) 1 gallon generally can be changed once weekly. Anything smaller will need to be changed more often.

Juju is specifically defined as supernatural powers (like Austin Powers' mojo :} )
