i was going through the pictures we took from trieste, italy, through slovenia, and into the truffle region of croatia. most of our stay was in croatia. and found the human fish in my pictures! I took this picture of the Olm, or human fish In a cave in croatia.. thats probably why the picture sucks so much. the other pictures i linked are much more pro. i wanted to take him home. they can live 200 years and only need to be fed every half a year or so. there was 2 of them, and i only got a picture of one. he was really really albino. our tour guide spoke, english, croatian, and russian for the group. he.

Why is it called a Human Fish? It does look very human-like...

hey! i believe this was in this one: Cave Baredine and Wine Road

Many legends have been told about one of the most beautiful Istrian Karst henomena - Cave Baredine. The highlight of descending into the underground world of stalactites and stalagmites on the walls of the cave must be the encounter with an endemic karst species, specific for this particular area, a strange creature with humanoid facial features, which gave it its name: Human fish or Proteus. The tour will be completed by wine tasting and lunch where you will be able to learn all about producing the famous Istrian wine. Upon return, you will visit Poreč and many monuments from its very rich history: ecumanus, Euphrasian basilica etc. Half-day excursion includes a qualified guide.

i will check up on that though to make sure. You're welcome for the pictures I hope you guys that viewed this havent seen this one before. i thought it was really amazing. im sorry he can live 100 years they know of. not 200., and can go without eating little krill or whatever for about 6 months. so a nice pet to have and cultivate, if you manage to catch him and cultivate him. upstairs they were growing grapes and had a winery. they say this newt-like thing is called a human fish because his face resembles a human; but i didn't think so. he was just a cave-newt. albino, living in freezing cold water in the dark. believe me though the view in real life was much better than my stupid blurry pictures. they dont do it justice. and croatia was CHEAP. we had lots of wine, beer, cheese, steak, shark, lobster, tuna, sea-bass, truffles, olives, and chilling at the beach like there was no tomorrow. i highly reccomend going there. we didnt spend much time in slovenia. Croatia was so cool. the ocean water was crystal clear but freezing cold, not like the pacific, or gulf of mexico, and there was naked old people and everyone was naked on some beaches, that was weird. heres a link to some more of my croatia pictures if you are interested. i excluded pictures from italy and slovenia. in one pic at a restaurant theres a HUGE empty mug on the table. that was a 'small' beer, 1 liter and GREAT quality. the big beer would have been 3liters! http://s1036.photobucket.com/albums/a446/Thisisamirage/croatia/
