Best Hiding Places

Just wondering if there are any of you hiding T's in your house, work or pockets. My collections is getting big enough with one T in the house, that was AFTER "no more pets" from my wife. One pet too many, but I could not help it. Some slings are on their way. My planned hiding spot is on my desk at the back of the shelf, dark and good ventilation. I need some more ideas.

Live large or live with T/ Ts

I'm the pet keeper, the baby keeper, the house keeper and the golf club keeper. Nothing but work at home while my much better half brings home 6-digits large.

The sarcasm is duly noted, but when you are in the same situation, which would you pick.

I guess my dirty little secret is my sling collection, not the porn under my mattress or on my computer.

On a more serious note, I was just asking about stories of stashing your T in interesting locations, not in a dedicated climate controlled room/ rooms.

I think you should tell her that T keeping is important to you. I mean if you’re in a relationship or marriage your significant other would want you to be happy…that’s the reason for a relationship…right?

You should never ever keep anything from your significant other it’s a bad habit to get in to . One little lie makes a huge difference in a woman’s eyes…that’s why so many of them out there are “crazy” and do not trust there men.

I am in your situation I’m a stay at home mom…who does everything. This house is my job I take pride in how it looks (inside and out) he doesn’t have to lift a finger here. It’s not like I go to work with him and help him out. I would never lie to him about anything and I never have. We have gotten in to battles about my T’s but ultimately they make me happy and sane, which he understands and deals with.

What ever more importantly what if she finds the slings and kills them or throws them out because you were deceiving her. Maybe she wouldn’t hurt the little guys but obviously they do not stay small enough to hide in a drawer forever. Then what are you going to do? Misleading someone or being sneaky is never the way to go especially if it’s your spouse…not that it’s any of my business… Just my $.02

Where to hide Ts

I just stash mine right out in the open. I never mention it or make a big deal when I bring a new one home, but I never hide them either. As long as I keep them in my space in our joint office and he isn't bothered by them (he's borderline arachnophobic) nothing is said. I got a book case with adjustable shelves for mine and agreed that my "bug stuff" would all fit, and that when it was full I would desist or trim my collection.

That said, we have also had the no more new pets conversation but all of my Ts don't take as much room, care, feeding or clean up as his two Dobermanns-which I also feed, bathe, walk and do most of the clean-up after, an illustration I used in my favor when he said no more bugs.

I'd also recommend not lying :liar: , but a little misdirection such as a well planted terrarium with a big spider in it might work for you. Good Luck!

from a womens point of view(and not married) if you were to hide them on me, what else are you hiding? I wouldn't trust you, i would get pissed, but it's workable,(seperate closed room) or find something you don't like that she keeps and she how she reacts(too many cookbooks?) and compare notes. Is there a financial issue about it all or just a dislike of the critters?

Appreciate the Constructive Responses

I'm planning to get rid of some of the other pets, but the "pet room", home to birds and small animals, is not an ideal place for tarantulas. My pet room is a solarium, properly insulated, but lots of sunlight. I'm trying somthing in my basement.

Like anything, I have to know what I'm getting into. My wife hates bugs and other creepy crawlys. If you want to see a scene, just tell her that a bug is on her back. I guess it is like some women telling their spouse/ partner that they are pregnant. Some are very cautious and other are excited. My wife insists that I go to all the appointments, so there are no surprises. There is a new baby on the way. It might be a Christmas baby.

I am making some personal space in the basement for my own sanity and Ts.

Spider cabinet

How about a small bookcase with adjustable shelves for your T's? I have a "spidey" cabinet made out of a converted bookcase that I heat and humidify AND LOCK for my T collection. It makes my significant other feel safe and keeps our 7 grandchildren from playing with granny's pets.

I think if she's willing to let you set at home while she works the least you could do is be honest about it. I'm sure if she is can live with you not working she would probably work out things with the T's.

She is not the stay at home type and it was agreed upon that I would stay home due to my culinary skills. Don't get me wrong. I do have a home consulting business with a very flexible schedule.

I know that there are at least two schools of logic on a succussful and lasting marriage: some things are just best left unsaid ;and total honesty and truth. I like to meet the godly man that subscribes to the second one.

Remember the question: How does this look on me? Does this make me look fat?

ok first off if he has even one doberman he has no room to talk i have two of them children...im mean dogs and i would say 1 dobe=atleast 100 tarantulas so id bargain tell him 100 to 1 or the dogs go sounds fair to me if he says no just infom him how much work and time he now needs to spend with his dogs mayb get them riled up and leave them home for a while or play catch in the tv room wont be hard to prove your point

Keeping T's

I would suggest educating her as much as possible and slings are always cute. My girlfriend hated spiders then I got some slings she fell in love with my G. aureostriata. Grows fast and with her expecting the nesting well kick in. Also a cabinet like the one mentioned above would be your best bet. Look they can't get out. They won't wake the baby. I don't know start with sayin I was thinkin maybe I want a snake or something else soon, your locked cabinet welll seem like a great idea.

On a personal note sharing hobbies is best for a relationship. Something you can do together. Atleast the more she knows the less scared she well get.

i get it trust me but for the sake of all involved including the slings...just be up front or try to make it a decorative endeavour..see how that works??
since we all can give you ideas and promote the manly way of doing things... in all reality, its you that is going to have to deal with your wife not us.....if she is truly dead set against it, then maybe something shinny might change her mind or really put it down (you know what i mean) ...something about great sex always seems to make compromising go soo much smoother....otherwise buy a camper........lol

The Spider Cabinet has a terrarium fan which aerates several times daily depending upon the time of year. I adjust the timers for all of my herps seasonally. I have several Avics and they seem to be happy and healthy. I would most certainly explain new additions to my spouse and offer some education regarding urticating hairs and venom but I wouldn't hesitate to own as any as I could take care of. My husband HATES most of my herps, but he bought me a nice A. bicegoi (??) and some type of Haplopelma last weekend at a local herp show along with a superb arboreal cage for my Asian Water Dragons. That's what love is all about
