The video isn't very clear but it looks like some sort of Araneus. These are found all over the world and are fairly numerous throughout most of North America. I'm not sure to what extent they are "in the hobby" but it's likely that you could go outside one spring night and find a few of your local species.

I think spiders catch small birds, bats, etc more often than people realize. It's just rare for someone to come along with a camera at the exact right time to document it.

I agree. It just takes being in the right place at the right time to see it, but it probably happens kind of regularly... Considering how many of the spiders there are at certain times of the year. They're really awesome catching big critters. {D
