Our Paradise Tree... err, gate post snake ->

Has brought us a little bundle of joy!

When I first saw it I thought it was another vine trying to eat the driveway light. Then it went boogie. I searched and it stuck it's nose out to say hello.

I'm venturing an unscientific guess. The flying is purely predator escape stuff. If they have a really good safe place to hole up, unlike sharing room with dozens of predators in the trees, they don't do the fly thing.
With mom and now baby I live in perpetual fear. They are right next to the road and I've seen quite a few road kills. But it seems mom has found an ideal habitat in the gatepost which is a honeycomb of snake sized runs and apparently, plenty of food.

Makes sense. Some people think it's also about mobility, but if she's happy, she probably won't move.
