I'm thinking about purchasing one for my son as a gift but was wondering if it's a mistake to buy a potentual male from a pet store. The pet store owner doesn't know if it's male or female. I know females live longer. I don't want to get something that might die in a year or so, especially when the pet store is selling the juv for $100. I know, kind of spendy but I kinda need one asap.
Thanks for any advice.

Check the for sale section. You could get a guaranteed female juvenile for around $80 or less with express shipping and possibly a freebie. Just look around. Don't buy it from the pet store.

Agreeing wholly with Chris.

You're more likely to get a well-started, well cared for specimen if you buy from a reputable dealer; than if you buy something from a pet store.

Check the for sale section, and you'll for sure find what you want.
