I have some B smithi problems and I don't know if I should be worried or just leave him alone. I went to feed him today and it looks like his burrow closed on him. It looks like he can't come back to the top.:( Should I re-open it for him or he knows what he's doing ??

yeah the T more than likely webbed itself in, so you would be undoing what the T has done

Definitely leave him alone, he'll emerge a little bigger with a new exoskeleton. It could take weeks, my G. pulchra once burrowed to molt and I didn't see her for a month. Your patience will be rewarded. :)

Does it look like his burrow caved in or did it just block the entrance with webbing?

If the entrance looks blocked by the spider's doing, then it will more than likely molt.

If it looks like the burrow caved in on it badly, then if it were me, I'd maybe do some gentle digging to make sure the tarantula is ok.

Sam,
I would leave it alone, if you are using peat or other soft substrate it should have no problem getting out by itself. if you disturb it and it happens to be molting it could die or be seriously injured.........patience grasshopper...............

Yep, I'd wager that more Ts have been killed by over-care than neglect. A T in a closed off burrow is nothing to worry about unless you've other reason to suspect a problem (such as the smell of a large, dead arachnid).

As a newbie I'd totally have to agree with that. More than once I've had to fight the urge to disturb my Ts. But I'm learning just to accept behaviour that is odd to me as normal for the T.

I agree just leave it alone give it a few weeks and hopefully by them it will molt because most likely she is trying to get ready for the molt.

Leave the T alone it's just doing what comes natural, probably molting, my B. emelia digs itself into a burrow and closes it off too, nothing to worry about. Just resist the temptation to bother the T.
