avicularia question

when i first got my A. avicularia, it constructed a beautiful web. it proceeded to molt twice in it, and thereafter, i relocated him/her to another cage. It has been about 2 1/2 months, and it hasn't even tried to build another web.

what is the problem? Is it because it is a HE and is no longer interested in making webs?

i tried placing the cage in diff. areas of the house and nothing has changed. he/she is eating normal and everything else.

what do you think?

I wouldn't worry about it.

I have eight A. avics and most of them will web like crazy creating these great tube like webs just to molt and when the molt is over they don't web anymore until the next molt. They usually tear down the existing web after they molt. They have all done fine. I wouldn't worry. If they want to web they'll web.:)

Does it have some sort of other cover? Maybe it is just comfortable with where it is hiding and feels no need to web. As long as it is feeding and seems healthy I see nothing to worry about.

I've not personally experienced the phenomenon of an Avic that doesn't build a web, but I've read enough of it to know that it's reasonably common and evidently harmless. There is a theory that some Ts come to regard their relatively small enclosures as their burrow/hide/tubeweb/etc. and that is why they don't engage in their traditional natural behavior and let us enjoy their beauty much easier.

The only time my A. avic made a web was just before a molt,
then he tore it down too
Seems to be a common avic thing.

My T is in a medium size plastic jar with peat and vermiculite as
a substrate, a water dish and a hide he never uses.
He spends his days walking on the jar wall, and only comes down
to eat.
His eating habits are pretty normal to.

How is the rest of the enclosure set up, do you have corkbark or something for the T to attach a web to?

If not, it may help. But I'd say you won't see it build another web until it's ready to molt next. If it would have stayed in its old enclosure, it may or may not have used its web for a hide.

One good thing is, they make it easy most of the time to know when a molt is coming. What yours is doing is perfectly normal behavior, good luck with your T.

I dunno if mine is male or fem yet, but I have a tiny hollow tree stump in the enclosure that it's taken over as it's hide and it has barely even done any webbing around or inside of that. It eats fine and sits on the lip of the stump waiting for prey items and in all other respects is perfectly fine.

I wouldn't be concerned.:D
