re. Avics

man I should get more, I have the same set up as you know, and my A.avic, looks so lonely. Got a question, I have an A.braun, from the sac show, its about 1in leg span, would it be too soon to put it in the same tank?, seperate section of course.

I hear you. If people weren't so quick to dismiss the familiar, these would be every bit a "hot" as any other Avic out there. Unfortunately, they've been in the hobby decades instead of years, breed readily, and can be had for $5 a pop as spiderlings. For some reason, that makes them not as cool as a nearly identical A. geroldi for 6X-8X the cost

I still think if you get an A. avicularia, A. minatrix, A. purpurea, and A. versicolor you have just covered the major variety of Avics in the pet trade. Get either an A. urticans or A. hurianna on top of those and you did just cover the entire variety.

Honestly, I'd wait until your Braunshaseni is 2-2.5" before you give it that size of a home. I just put my A. miatrix in and she is about 2.5".

1" is awful small to put in that size of a container. Keep it in a vial or deli cup for now and then move it into something like a small kritter keeper or a larger vial after another molt or two.

I agree I would wait till it at least gets 2.5" because spiders that small like 1" can fit through just about anything. Its amazing on what they can fit through if they really want out at that small lol :(

Female A. ulrichea.

I heard that A. ulrichea, A. urticans and A. auratiaca are in fact the same species, but just different colorforms. This guy told me this was true because breeding those different "species" brought fertile spiderlings...

Cute T! It looks like it's about to jump into your softdrink. :)

Are the A. ulrichea, A. urticans and A. auratiaca all from the same region? The colour morph idea would definitely make sense then - kind of like red phase G. Rosea.

re larger enclosure

I guess your right, just get a lil antsy pantsy once in a while, wanting it to get bigger quicker. Right now its in a beanie babie cube, and webbing up a storm. I guess I should remember if it ain't broke don't fix it:D

Thanks

William
