I saw one in a dull black and white photo in a book Haplopelma minax was its scientific name. Are they common in the hobby?

yes, the H minax is now very common in the hobby, and another sp.of this genus is the Haplopelma lividum (cobalt blue) both has the same attitude & aggressive temperament but are a very intersting T's.

I gots to get back into the tarantula hobby. Are these terrestial or arboreal?

They are obliagte burrowers and you will almost never see them, but they are worth having.

oh yeah haps are on my top list,ive got several,minax,longipes,lividum,schmidi,hauinium,alborstriatum(spelling) they are indeed aggressive,and very good burrowers,excellent genus:clap:
