I'm back yet again and with yet another spider. What can I say? I love jumping spiders lol. My insect app says my newest addition is a tan jumping spider. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this particular species and wanting to make sure my app's ID is correct. I found this little guy on the wooden fence at the edge of our property. Not sure of the age or whether male or female. Also, any insights in general are appreciated. Plus, I just think this little guy looks neat lol. Thanks in advance...again.

I'm not familiar with this species, but I searched some pictures of the tan jumping spider, and it looks pretty similar to yours, but again, I'm not familiar with this species, so I'm not 100% sure.

And yes, one jumping spider just isn't enough! :p

Also... an app that ID's jumpers? I need it.

I was supposed to only have three through a compromise with my bf, but have managed to now have 6 jumpers and two wolf spiders. They're just awesome little guys. I use the Picture Insect app. It's the easiest to use for me, but it's still hit or miss. It's called a few of my spiders beetles or bed bugs, but the camera on my phone isn't the greatest. My last few spiders it's been pretty accurate with.

I was thinking male, but not entirely sure. I read their lifespan is about a year, but the site I looked at didn't go into detail about whether that was for the whole species or just males. I was surprised to see this little guy. We usually have mainly phidippus audax around our house, I have a male I caught that came into our house and made its way into our bedroom and I have a female I found on an outside rug about 2 weeks ago. They've been awesome to watch and have around.

I'm still new to owning jumping spiders. I found out a few months ago that having jumping spiders as pets was a thing. There was one that kept hanging around our living room and kitchen. I relocated it outside and then we started having one hang out at our bathroom window. I made an agreement with it that as long as it stayed in the bathroom, that it could stay free, but if it came into our bedroom, it would become my pet. You can guess the rest lol. This was after I got a regius jumper online and was waiting for it to be shipped. My 8 legged pets have grown in number and my bf has begrudgingly compromised with me on keeping them. They've just been a joy to watch and have been a means of education as well. They each have their own personalities. My girls love watching them and learning about them too.

I just started getting real enclosures etc. and really filling up most of my time with jumpers it’s nice because especially with tans you can leave out of the blue for a little and they’ll be just fine! And I want a Regal or Bold jumper so bad! Waiting for it to be the perfect time though!

I had to get my first Regius online, but I read they are native to the U.S. Phidippus Audax should be even more common. I know jumpers hunt during the day in sunny spots. The YouTube channel "Snake Discovery" has a video that helps with where to find jumpers. I'm excited about my little tan jumper. I hope I get to learn a little more about him.

Hi! Very familiar with Platycryptus here. (Look at my profile photo, lol) hope I’m not repeating something that’s already been said but the thread is kinda long, so I would prefer not to read it all? 😅 Sorry if that sounds rude. 😔

to answer the initial question, adult male Platycryptus undatus!

You're fine. We just got a little off topic for a bit lol. Thank you for confirming what we were suspecting.

I have an adult female P. undatus. She's awesome. I just treat her like any other jumper, mine seem to really like crickets.
A way to tell female vs. male is males will have an orange stripe below their eyes, and female will have a white stripe. Otherwise they look very similar.

This is true. Also, adult males have a white mustache over their chelicerae, sub-adult males do not. Platycryptus undatus’ gender is only distinguishable at sub-adulthood. Males do not get the orange stripe until they are sub-adult. Also, juveniles male and female can have a little orange on their faces. Also, adult males and females are distinguishable without a view of the face, but it takes more time to learn the differences.
