My boyfriend and I want to take a week off work and go to Mexico at the beginning of September. I was wondering if there are any tarantulas in the Cancun area? Hopefully we'll get to do this.
I don't know about Cancun, but when I was in Puerto Vallarta on a horseback riding tour I saw a nice fat B. smithi sitting on a rock watching us go by.Originally posted by HerpInvertGirl

Good advice from our friend here. Look but don't touch, just in case. Mexico has so much beautiful wildlife, it's a feast for the senses... I really want to go back there some day.Originally posted by willywonka
If you happen to find any don't try to bring them back. Many of the Mexican tarantulas appear on the C.I.T.E.S list. If you try and are caught you will face fines and/or jail time and nothing ruins a vacation then spending time in a Mexican jail.
Well it was something stripey, anyway. It was some years ago. But it was not right in the city, it was near Vallarta, in a jungly spot, whatever it was, it was a big fuzzy spider the size of a smithi, no question.Originally posted by monantony
I just talked to a border patrol guy, formally from Tx, he said he saw spiders fairly often, didnt really care if it was one or two...I bet that is the typical response, so long as your not smuggling alot. Smithi in puerta vallarta? Hmm I saw klaasi when i was there in the conseravation store on the boardwalk...I thought smithi were found farther south that that, but maybe not that far..
