i just bought one from my local reptile store and have it in a 10 gallon tank with watered sand so it can burrow. any info on this scorp? i've already seen it mutilate a cricket with it's stinger and the cricket dissolved in a day, except for the head. freakin crazy. if anyone has some advice or tank setup suggestions i'd like to hear them. anyone else own one of these aggressive, fast scorps?

yeah i saw it sting it maybe 10 times

yeah, it was crazy. i saw sumpin flopping around in my tank, then i noticed the scorp grab it and sting a numerous amount of times. the scorp didnt even attempt to eat it. it was a hit and run. the cricket was all liquidy. then this morning it was dissolved but the head and a little bit of the body was left. i heard that it's sting is compared to having ur finger gettin hit by a hammer. the owner got stung a few days before i bought it.

Ah. The simplest explanation in my mind is that the scorpion ate the cricket while you were sleeping. Scorpion venom does not "disolve" prey like that.

Cheers,

should i have a little heat lamp on top?

on the top of the tank to maintain an 80-85 degree habitat? opportunistic burrower means........??? i'm planning on getting a fat-tailed scorpion from LLL Reptile&Supply. they had some good looking oners when i went a few days ago. they had one of them spitting ones too. i just have watered down sand in the setup. is that enough? or put in something else? it's about 4'' deep.

Opportunist burrower=if you give them the chance to do a burrow, they'll do one, if not, they won't try to.

Are you sure that you have enough experience to get a fat-tailed?

Emps and desert hairies are nothing compared to fat-tailed ones. Hot scorps doesn't necessary act aggressive, they sometimes prefer to hide, but one day, when you'll be less aware of the situation, they could tag you up. I've heard from people that their desert hairies are more aggressive than their truely hot scorps.. But every species has its own personnality. If you want something new, you can go into something else, there's other species with a fat tail that are less hotter than the real fat-tailed.

I PMed you.
