I need another species of feeder (I use Lobsters and hisser nymphs) for a few of my scorpions and certain tarantulas. I need a non-burrowing, non-glass climbing insect. I have dubias but the adults are too big for most and they tend to burrow. Am I stuck with crickets?

What about B lateralis? Yes they are considered a pest species but are readily eaten by things, I THINK they do not burrow but I am not sure.

If they can't climb glass and don't burrow that would rock. I have a 20g long tank with some emperor scorpions in it. They take their time eating anything so I need something that will run around the surface or hide in one of the burrows for them. Lobsters have a tendency to dig down and then my emps never find them. Also the lid isn't exactly tight fitting, my emps can't escape from it but anything that can climb glass is gone.

i dont own some, but i plan to...from what I've read. they don't burrow and can't clim glass..in fact, they have the advantages of both lobster roaches (fast breeding) and dubia (can't climb smooth surfaces). they,re about 1" in adulthood, however they are even faster than lobster roaches!

Just a suggestion: how about tong feeding? It sounds like you have enough feeders already.

Honestly all my pets run when I open the lid, I don't see them being willing to take food from tongs. I adore the lobsters for the tanks I can feed them in but I hate having to buy crickets for the other tanks. I was debating starting a tank of crickets but lateralis sounds so much better. I don't have to worry about the young getting eaten. One problem with my roaches is, the slightest disturbance (such as tank cleaning) and half my gravid females abort their oothecae. With egg cases at least I can spot them and move them when I clean rather than watch them waste away. I know they can't climb glass, do you think they could climb like that dark colored rubbermaid plastic? I'd love a roach colony I don't have to put up barrier for.

If there is any sort of rough texture, like scrubbing too hard with a scowing pad, B. lateralis can climb it. Also, the egg cases have a glue like substance and if the nymphs get any on their feet, they can still climb smooth surfaces. Males of this specie can jump "fly" pretty high, so a lid is still recommended.

I had them. They infested, so I got rid of them.

They would be for my glass enclosures both with small holes in the top. Lobs have proven to be quite adapt at first climbing the walls and then squeezing through the holes. Also the Lobsters burrow down in my scorpion tanks before they have a chance to catch them. Lats sound perfect to me.

i also opted to breed both the lobsters and the lateralis.bothed got banned from my wife from the house.no matter how hard i tried i would see a few in my basement so i wouldn't recomend either at all.especially the lateralis.
