I believe the smithi is a female. You can just barely see the little flap.

The G.pulchripes is male. The smithi pictures are way to blurry and dark to see anything.

the B smithi - shots are bad, but i think male also.

why don't you try fiddle with it a little bit. it's not hard, you know the area, just tease it a little with a toothpick or something to see if there's a flap.

Your chaco pics turned out clear enough (male, btw), I assume you have a macro setting on your camera? Give the smithi molt another shot, and make sure there is enough light in the room before you try again to take away some of the blurriness. Otherwise, look for the flaps like other have suggested.

BTW, thanks for all ur post.... hard luck getting a female for chaco..but no worries, another 3 in premolt status...

My chaco was a confirmed male, and I love him. Good luck on finding a girlie in the bunch! It'll be hard luck indeed to have all 5 turn out male (chances of that happening are slim at about 3%).

i've been trying to get a female G pulchripes of my own for quite some time now - but am the proud owner of 2 mature males.

lucky to be babysitting a fellow collector's female who's on reverse breeding loan.
long, long wait for a sac though.
