so i had mentioned earlier (in another thread) about the structure of jaws in solpugids. it seems they have 4 sharp chelicerae, and them seem to move independently. they can move up and down, which is very commonly seen while chewing prey or secreting substances. they can also spread the jaws to the side, and all apart, which is quite scary!! anyway, hopefully these pics somewhat capture what i'm saying.

here's another killer image

I have to say, those little things are CUTE when they're young like that.
But full grown.. -shivers
I guess its the old saying "Everythings cute when its young" that gets me.

Hey Widowman,

Nice pictures. :) They have two chelicarae, but both have two joints and are chelate, both joints have a 'claw' or 'fang'. They're like 'pincers'.

They seem very similar to scorp chelicerae but rotated 90degrees and massively muscled. It's interesting to see all the different uses and modifications among the chelicerates.

When I lived in Egypt (long, long ago) I found and kept one of these. The body was about 2 inches long and it ate anything I put in with it, including a lizard.
