Hey all,

I've got a small Phrynus Whitei, in pre-molt, who I believe hasn't eaten in about 35 days.

She's doing fine, but I wanted a more experienced keepers input - how long have you folks had your ambly hunger strike for?

I have a first-stage adult A. coronatus that has been in premoult for nearly 3½ months, fat opisthosoma and no feeding. Temperature is generally around 70-72 degrees. My much smaller P. decoratus hasn’t eaten for an equally long time and doesn’t seem to be in premoult, but apparently this species has a seasonal feeding pattern so it’s to be expected. (Big thanks to Wizentrop for telling me about this!)

Yes, that's normal as long as the animal is in good condition and not paper thin.
With the species I keep, Phrynus barbadensis and P. decoratus are the main culprits, both sometimes go on without feeding for 4 months! They seem to enjoy the downtime though.

I had one that didn't eat the first month or so I had it. Then it finally molted and started eating normally.
