Alternative to Roaches and Crix?

Long story short, I live in FL and most roach species are illegal here and they also give me the creeps. Right now my T's have a strictly cricket diet, which I know is not the most nutritious diet to feed them. Would a mixture of crickets and mealworms be better for them? Or is there any other kind of large insect that is readily available (and legal) in FL? I know that there must be other T keepers in FL with the same problem, what do you guys feed your T's?

Crickets are much better than locusts - crickets provide better nutrition for the Ts. I have also heard that locusts can harbour a gut bacteria that is detrimental to the tarantula.

Thanks, I didn't know that. That definitely rules them out as a possibility.

According to this chart, mealworms and superworms both have a little more protein than crickets:

I guess crickets and mealworms it is then.

Crickets are plenty nutritious for tarantulas & a diet based soley on them is just fine. Mixing it up would be ideal, but definetly not required to keep your T healthy.

There are some native roaches that we can have as well - - occasionally you'll see discoids? for sale and I believe they are legal here in FL - doesn't help if you just don't like roaches though :D

There's just something about roaches that really bugs me, no pun intended. It makes me shudder just thinking about them.

Have you spent much time around them? Maybe once you hold a few and get used to them a little, your fear of them will subside...
