Ot-oh...

First you'll wanna determine if it is a mature male, cause if so you'll either wanna take it back to the store and tell them to learn a li'l about what they're sellin', or make a breeding deal with someone here and become their new best friend! (a LOT of people are looking for mature males right now for breeding that species!)

Check the remaining #1 leg and see if there is a hooked formation jutting out from the underside of the tibia, and/or take a close look at the pedipalp (the stubby apendages that resemble legs to either side of the chalicera or fangs) to see if they end in little boxing glove looking bulbs. If any of this is present, it's DEFINATELY a mature male and will have a seriously short life span compared to what the seller likely said it will. Males live about 6 months from what I've always heard is the average, to maybe a year and a half at most (barring noted "post-ultimate molt" FREAKS OF NATURE exceptions! ;P ).

If it is not a mature male by that size it is at least a mature female most likely and from what I've heard can live upwards of 15 years, but then there is no telling how old it already is, especially if it is a wild caught specimen and not captive bred.

Assuming it isn't an old T it will regrow the leg in a few molts, but mature T's tend to molt only once or twice a year, so you might want to return it for a better specimen regardless.

If anyone with more knowlege cares to correct me on any of this, be gentle with me!
;P ;P ;P

And welcome to the hobby, as well as the boards! :D

Re: Ot-oh...

Um, I think he said the G. rosea is only 2.75". They're hardly mature adults of either sex at that size.

Edit to add: Whoops, I overlooked where he said the T's body alone was 2.75-3".

well right from the begining i can tell that these boards will be very fun and informative. hehe nice pic =D i checked its remaining #1 leg and there seems to be no hook jutting out from the tibia. also its palpus seem devoid of the boxing glove features and seem to look more like mini-legs. since the people at the pet store were pretty sure it was a female anyways and the evidence suppots this, i believe (and hope) it is a SHE!!! i think im gonna keep her so she will be safe from those leg breakers at the pet store!!!:D thanx a ton eveyone!!!
