My A. geniculata has recently molted, 07/07/17, so three days ago, should I offer prey or should I re-house it first. As it's taken quite a stretch 1"+, it's sitting at 3"+ I'm not sure if I should rehouse it first or offer prey. What do you guys think I should do, given that it has grown a fair bit. I'm thinking rehouse, but I would like some opinions first. Obviously I won't offer prey yet, I will wait until 7 days after the molt which will be on Friday. The new enclosure is 8"x6"x6" - LxWxH.

Thanks in advance guys.

As long as you are planning to wait that 7 days it should be fine to do the rehouse, and once you rehouse it try and feed it, i have read that feeding helps them re-adjust to new enclosures but i cant say if thats true or not. :)

They don't need food much. I like to rehouse before feeding. But either way is fine.

I'm thinking the same, I'll rehouse the A. geniculata tomorrow, that way I'll know it's exoskeleton is hardened up sufficiently to do the rehouse without injuring the spider, thanks @Venom1080

Yeah I was thinking the same pal, rehouse first then let it get used to it's new enclosure then feed on Friday, exactly one week since it molted, perfect timing. Thanks @TRection

i always fatten them and re house in or just prior to pre molt.

At 3" it should wait another 4 days to feed....so if youre gonna re house, you may as well re house.

Yeah I'm going to rehouse tomorrow, Tuesday, then offer prey on Friday, thanks for the reply @cold blood , always good to get the advice needed. I wasn't sure which to do first - but all the replies have said what I had thought in the first place. ;)

Feed it and then rehouse it while it's eating. When they're munching on food, they become more docile from what I've seen. Take this video for example.

Very interesting, I'm going to rehouse the A. geniculata tomorrow, then wait until Friday to offer prey, reason being I think the genic is too big for the enclosure it's in now to take a prey item and stand in a proper eating posture, thanks for the reply @Moakmeister, it's appreciated but I feel the enclosure is too small, as it gained an inch or more when it molted. A. geniculata gain some size in one molt, didn't realise it would grow so much! Cheers pal.

@Venom1080 what does the lollipop rating mean - never understood that one, I've always used it like "go and suck" on a lollipop....LOL....clarify please!

It may be too big to stand up with prey properly, but when you feed it, the lid is off, right? And you'll nudge it into the new enclosure as soon as it starts eating. The small old enclosure won't matter.

Yeah the lid would be off, of course. But I'll still rehouse then feed her/him, thanks for the input anyway, just received it as well, just before it went into pre-molt, so I'm going the safe route. Not that the way you've said isn't safe, I would feel better doing it the way I explained.

As already stated, do the rehouse and then feed in a few days, I always like to give a T at least 24hrs undisturbed in a new enclosure before feeding anyway.

Yeah, they grow like weeds and don't really start to slow down until they hit subadult sizes.

You feed when the fangs change color to black. There's no magic time, you check. Rehouse, up to you. I've fed, and other times I've rehoused instead. It's not a science.

I know, the only thing is I'm going away for a few days and want to get the A. geniculata rehoused and fed before I go away, I'm away on Monday coming so it's quite important. It will be the spiders first meal since it molted so I wouldn't want to leave it until I come back that would be quite a few days more than I would be comfortable leaving it without having eaten a meal.

Well that's the rehouse done, went without any trouble, a little hair flick but that w sit, has settled in to it's new enclosure. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance, busy busy - school holidays.

Yeah that's the job done and it's a good one, was always gonna rehouse then feed, just thought I would throw out the Q anyway. thanks for all the replies, much appreciated, would never consider moving a T while it was having a meal, just saying @Moakmeister . No reflection on your reply, just didn't think it was the best idea, cheers for the reply anyway, we've all got our own way of doing things, at the end of the day if it works it works.

I've taken to doing my OW rehouses (well, my C. huahini) before they've hardened up enough to have their first post moult meal, I found it so much easier.

I second not moving while it eats, it might work a lot of the time but some of them can get a bit cranky because they think you're trying to take their meal from them.
