A couple IDs

First, a wolf spider:



Second, a Theriidae sp. (not the best picture, the thing wouldn't stay still long enough to take a picture)

not too sure on the wolf ID, so i won't put out a guess.

your 2nd is probably a Steatoda borealis. does it have the "walking man" underneath, on the ventral side? looks like this: o<

The wolf spider might be a Trochosa sp. Can you post a picture showing the whole spider from above? Trochosa will have a broad, light band down the middle of the carapace, with some shorter dark bands on either side of the midline, just behind the eyes and inside the light band. Something like this:

Cool! That(2nd spidie) does look like S.borealis ...or some other cool Steatoda. Im going w/Widowman...and say its borealis though. ;)

The second pic (possible S. borealis) looks a lot like a spider I found in my apartment back in the Fall, which widowman also helped me identify as a possible S. borealis. What, is this species now residing in Ontario?

with a name like borealis, i would guess it would extend far up north ;)

they survive quite well in frigid regions.

The wolf spider looks like a Trochosa ruricola.
